WARREN, Mich., Dec. 9 (UPI) -- Two Michigan boys, age 8 and 10, have been suspended from school and face criminal charges for using a toy gun to take snacks from classmates, officials said.
The Lincoln Elementary School students in Warren approached classmates around 4 p.m. Tuesday as the alleged victims were walking home. One of the two suspects pulled a toy gun with an orange tip and demanded money, while the second suspect took candy and a bag of chips from the other students' backpacks, police said.
Warren Police Lt. Dan Beck said arrangements were being made to have investigators question the suspects, who he said faced charges including armed robbery, The Detroit News reported.
Beck said none of the alleged victims -- who ranged in age from 7 to 11 -- was injured.
"It's pretty sad that kids this young would do something like this," he said.
Van Dyke Public Schools Superintendent Joe Pius said the two were suspended for 10 days and he will meet with their parents to discuss whether they will be permitted to return to school or should be expelled.
