MIAMI, Nov. 22 (UPI) -- An employee of a Jewish community organization in Florida was arrested on charges of selling Holocaust survivors' identity information for $1,000, police said.
Crystal Thorne, 23, arrested during the weekend on identity theft charges, remained in custody after making her first appearance Monday in federal court in Miami, The Miami Herald reported.
Federal prosecutor Diane Patrick said Thorne's job at the Jewish Community Services of South Florida office in North Miami gave her access to personal information of clients, including names addresses and Social Security numbers, who regularly seek help from the Holocaust Survivors Assistance Program. Thorne was caught after she offered to sell the allegedly stolen Holocaust victims' IDs to a police informant.
After her arrest Saturday, Thorne signed a statement saying she got the "stolen sheets of identity information from her employment" and she provided ID sheets to the informant previously, the Herald said. Thorne said she provided the informant the information "in hopes of getting a couple of dollars."
