13 more arrested in SAT cheating scandal

LONG ISLAND, N.Y., Nov. 22 (UPI) -- Long Island police have arrested 13 more students in an SAT test-taking investigation that brought charges against seven others in September.

In the latest wave of arrests, nine students are accused of paying someone to take the college entrance test for them and four others are accused of accepting money to take the test, WNBC-TV, New York, reported Tuesday.

Five of the students who allegedly paid attended Great Neck North High School, two went to North Shore Hebrew Academy and one each went to Roslyn High School and St. Mary's High School, all in Long Island. Their names had not been released because of their age. They face misdemeanor charges.

The alleged test-takers are Joshua Chefec, 20, a senior at Tulane University; Michael Pomerantz, 18, who attended Great Neck North High School; Adam Justin, 19, a graduate of North Shore Hebrew Academy; and George Trane, 19, a graduate of Great Neck South, The New York Times reported.

The test-takers allegedly took cash payments of $500 to $3,600 and face charges of first-degree scheme to defraud, second-degree falsifying business records and second-degree criminal impersonation.
