Reno wildfire nearly contained

RENO, Nev., Nov. 20 (UPI) -- Firefighters reported Sunday having a good handle on a wildfire that burned 2,000 acres and several homes in northern Nevada.

The Caughlin fire near Reno was 80-percent contained Sunday morning and was expected to be fully contained by the end of the day, officials announced.

The wind-driven Caughlin fire broke out Friday and had destroyed 29 homes as of Sunday and forced the hasty evacuation of some 10,000 residents.

The evacuation was lifted Saturday after utilities were restored to the neighborhoods.

Investigators believe arcing power lines caused by the blustery winds sparked the blaze. The Reno (Nev.) Gazette Journal said investigators had ruled out arson or an accidental ignition from a homeless encampment in the area.
