Mom of Jeremy Irwin's son wants custody

KANSAS CITY, Mo., Nov. 16 (UPI) -- The mother of missing Missouri baby Lisa Irwin's 8-year-old half-brother has filed a court petition seeking temporary custody of the boy.

The Kansas City Star reported Rasleen Raim filed the petition in Clay County seeking to modify the parents' child custody and visitation agreement, said her lawyer, Dorothy Savory.

The boy lives with his father, Jeremy Irwin, and is the half-brother of Irwin's baby daughter, Lisa Irwin, who disappeared from the family's home six weeks ago. The boy was in the home the night Lisa disappeared.

"Mrs. Raim has always kept her son … in her thoughts and prayers," Savory said in a written statement. "Now, more than ever, she is concerned about 'her baby's' comfort and peace of mind. Rasleen misses her son and has always, and will forever, love him."

Jeremy Irwin and his wife, Deborah Bradley, have told police Lisa, who turned 1 Friday, disappeared from her crib.

Joe Tacopina, a New York lawyer representing Irwin and Bradley, called reports of the petition "unbelievable" and said, "I don't think it will be a serious challenge."

Tacopina said the family was moving back into its Kansas City home after staying with a relative since Lisa disappeared.

"They have to get some normality back into their lives, particularly for the boys," Tacopina said. "They need to be back in their own bedroom with their own clothes and toys."

Tacopina said Bradley became "very emotional" when she entered Lisa's bedroom and looked into the empty crib.

Meanwhile, investigators said they were looking into some of the more than 1,300 tips they have received in the case.
