SANTA CLARA, Calif., Nov. 15 (UPI) -- The FBI has joined an investigation into a hacking incident in which the grades of 60 students were changed, officials at a California university say.
The hacking took place at Santa Clara University, a Jesuit school in the San Francisco area, the San Jose Mercury News reported. School officials said Monday the FBI had been asked to get involved, and the agency confirmed it was participating in the investigation.
"We are taking it quite seriously," said Dennis Jacobs, the provost and vice president for academic affairs. "We are reviewing and enhancing all security measures to reduce the likelihood of any intrusion in the future."
Santa Clara officials said a former student informed administrators in August that a copy of her transcript included a grade better than the one she actually received. Investigators determined the records of more than 60 current and former students had been tampered with, ranging from minor changes to conversion of F's to A's.
