DETROIT, Nov. 14 (UPI) -- Vice President Joe Biden says the United States remains solidly committed to Israel.

Biden, speaking Sunday in Detroit at a fundraiser for an Orthodox Jewish school in Southfield, Mich., said the relationship between the United States and Israel is a key component of efforts to "secure this region and the wider world as well as our own security," The Detroit News reported.

"America's bond with Israel is unbreakable. … I guarantee you: We will stand with Israel because we know she has nowhere else to go and we want her to stay right where she is."

Earlier in the day, Biden attended a re-election fundraiser for U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow. In his address at the Detroit Renaissance Center, Biden said the Michigan Democrat has been "an incredible asset" in the U.S. Senate.

Stabenow, a member of the U.S. Senate since 2000, is being challenged by at least eight Republicans.

"They (Republicans) seem to live in a different universe," Biden said. "Where is it written that the United States cannot and will not lead the world with production of automobiles in the 21st century? ... These guys think small."
