23-year-old becomes Ind. city mayor

FRANKFORT, Ind., Nov. 9 (UPI) -- Frankfort, Ind., has elected a new Republican mayor, who said he was "so excited," a predictable emotion for someone just 23 years old.

Chris McBarnes held a strong lead as voting was conducted Tuesday and by 7 p.m. it was clear he was the mayor-elect of Frankfort, WLFI-TV, West Lafayette, Ind., reported.

In an election that featured a 28 percent turnout, McBarnes received 75 percent of the vote against 15 percent for his Democratic opponent and 10 percent for an independent candidate.

McBarnes said he had a 100-day plan to put into effect as soon as he takes office as mayor of the city with a population of slightly more than 16,000.

"I am so excited tonight, but I know very well that the work has just begun," he said Tuesday. "We have a long way to go in making this community a better place. I am ready to take on that challenge, work with my great city council people to get this done, and we're going to get Frankfort moving in the right direction."
