Ohio bargaining law headed for defeat

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Nov. 8 (UPI) -- Early results Tuesday showed Ohio's law restricting collective bargaining for public employees losing by a large margin.

More than 60 percent of those voting on Issue 2 cast no votes to repeal Senate Bill 5, The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer reported.

The bill, similar to one that is now law in Wisconsin, would have stripped public employee unions of the ability to bargain on most issues, banned strikes by government workers and ended binding arbitration. It was pushed by Republican Gov. John Kasich, who campaigned for a yes vote.

Voters in a few counties, especially rural areas on the state's western border, approved the law, the newspaper said.
