COLUMBIA, Mo., Nov. 8 (UPI) -- Missouri prosecutors said they didn't have enough evidence to pursue charges of marijuana possession against the son of Gov. Jay Nixon.
Willson Nixon and Nikolas Morehead, both 21, were cited Sept. 10 after police responded to a call about a loud party in an apartment building and smelled marijuana in the hallway, the Columbia (Mo.) Daily Tribune reported Tuesday.
Police said the door to apartment 103 was open and "when officers looked inside they could see marijuana in plain view."
Nixon and Morehead were issued citations on suspicion of possessing less than 35 grams of marijuana.
"The facts of the case were inadequate to support a charge beyond a reasonable doubt," said Adam Kruse, Columbia's assistant prosecutor.
Online records show Nixon is a junior at the University of Missouri, the report said.
