MIAMI, Nov. 6 (UPI) -- Miami Fire Rescue says a 49-year-old man was found dead, covered with bees, in a bedroom of a house he was renovating.

Officials say the man was trying to fog as many as 60,000 bees out of the bedroom when he died, WFOR-TV, Miami, reported.

The man, whose name has yet to be released, was discovered by his daughter Saturday in a home in Little Havana that he recently purchased.

"The daughter goes upstairs and thinks that maybe her father is taking a nap and when she opened the door she was encountered by several hundred bees that were inside the room," said Lt. Ignatius Carroll, of Miami Fire Rescue.

Carroll said the daughter then ran back downstairs to tell others in the home about the bees. When she returned to the bedroom, she realized her father was on the floor.

"You can imagine how traumatic that this little girl was feeling to see her father down there, but unable to get to him because of the bees," said Carroll.

Bee removal specialist Willie Karloff was called to the scene by a fire rescue crew that was concerned about entering the room, the report said. When he gave the crew the go ahead to enter the room, it was too late and the man was already dead.

"There was a small hole in the wall with bees coming out going towards the light," said Karloff, who estimated the number of bees at 60,000.

Carroll said it appeared the man was standing on a chair and fell, but it is unclear if the fall, the bees or a medical condition caused his death.

A Miami-Dade medical examiner will determine the man's cause of death.
