LOS ANGELES, Nov. 3 (UPI) -- Los Angeles police say they've linked alleged serial killer Lonnie Franklin Jr. to six more slayings in the "Grim Sleeper" case.

Franklin is already charged with killing 10 young women over two decades, the Los Angeles Times reported Wednesday.

Police Chief Charlie Beck and other top law enforcement officials provided an update on the case at a community meeting Tuesday night at Bethel A.M.E. Church in South Los Angeles. Police said they're seeking help from the public and news media in identifying 48 women in photographs found inside Franklin's home.

"We may never know how many young women Lonnie Franklin killed, but we are going to do all we can to find out," Beck said.

Police said they are hesitant to file additional charges in the new cases because it may further delay Franklin's trial.

Franklin, a former LAPD garage attendant and city garbage collector, has pleaded not guilty to charges he sexually assaulted and killed 10 women between 1985 and 2007. He is also charged with one count of attempted murder.
