HOUSTON, Nov. 3 (UPI) -- Oil industry giant BP has agreed to pay Texas $50 million to settle the allegations of air pollution from a deadly 2005 explosion at its Texas City refinery.

A statement from Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott's office Thursday said the action resolves all claims against BP alleged in a 2009 enforcement action.

In the settlement, BP does not acknowledge liability but agreed to settle to avoid the uncertainty of future litigation, the Houston Chronicle reported.

Texas had accused BP of 72 pollution violations in the months following the 2005 blast that killed 15 workers and injured scores.
