RIVERSIDE, Calif., Nov. 2 (UPI) -- Three people were treated for smoke inhalation Wednesday from a vegetation fire that spread to homes in Riverside, Calif., officials said.

Two or three homes in an unincorporated area of Riverside were damaged by the fire, which was kicked up by heavy winds, Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Jody Hagemann said in a written statement.

Ambulance crews treated the smoke inhalation victims in an area where evacuations were being conducted, The (Riverside) Press-Enterprise reported.

The fire, which was reported at 9:09 a.m. Wednesday, initially threatened about an acre of land northwest of the Riverside Municipal Airport before heavy winds changed the direction of the blaze.
