HOLLYWOOD, Nov. 1 (UPI) -- Police in Hollywood say they made 39 arrests on Hollywood Boulevard on Halloween night, mostly for fighting and public drunkenness.

The police presence to keep order Monday night included 16 horse-mounted officers, the Los Angeles Times reported.

One man was arrested for assault for allegedly throwing a liquor bottle at a dismounting officer after refusing to get out of the street, police said.

In West Hollywood, where the city shut down Santa Monica Boulevard to hold its annual Halloween street festival, things were quieter, authorities said.

Deputies made two arrests, down from eight last year, LA County Sheriff's Sgt. Jim Farrell said.

"It seemed like there was more people this year, which was surprising for us," he said. "It all seemed very well-behaved. People were out there to have a good time and it was just that."
