AUSTIN, Texas, Oct. 27 (UPI) -- A Texas court denied a former prosecutor's motion to quash a subpoena from the attorneys for a prison inmate who was exonerated in the murder of his wife.
Lawyers for Michael Morton want to depose former Williamson County prosecutor Ken Anderson about allegations that evidence in Morton's case had been hidden from the defense to raise the odds of a conviction.
Morton was convicted in 1987 of murdering his wife the year before and spent nearly 25 years in prison before being cleared.
The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals Wednesday declined to hear a motion from Anderson to block the deposition. The Austin American-Statesman said the refusal was made without comment other than a statement from one judge who recused himself because his wife had been part of Morton's defense team in 1987.
