Body of missing skydiving champion found

MOAB, Utah, Oct. 26 (UPI) -- A body found by a hiker near Moab, Utah, was identified as the remains of champion skydiver Dave Brown, who disappeared in late June, police said Wednesday.

The remains were discovered Sunday below the Moab Rim, The Salt Lake Tribune reported. Moab police announced the positive identification of Brown, 37, of Moab.

Brown had not been seen since June 29 when he left the house he shared with Clint MacBeth, his boss at Skydive Moab, apparently intending to take a short hike. He was working as an instructor in Moab for the summer.

A native of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Brown had made more than 30,000 jumps during a career that included a national championship and a world record.

Grand County Search and Rescue hunted for Brown for several weeks after he was reported missing. But authorities said it was not surprising the search was fruitless since the area below the Moab Rim, a long cliff southeast of the town, is extremely rugged.
