WASHINGTON, Oct. 23 (UPI) -- Republican U.S. presidential candidate Rick Santorum said Sunday he would support anybody in the current GOP field of candidates over President Obama.

"They are far superior in many other ways than this president. And I would have no problem supporting them," the former U.S. senator from Pennsylvania said in an interview on CBS' "Face the Nation." "But there is a better candidate out in [the] field, Bob. And you're talking to him this morning."

Santorum said despite his criticisms of fellow candidates Herman Cain and Mitt Romney, he'd support them if either won the Republican nomination for president.

Santorum said Cain, though, has a weak record as a conservative, pointing to the businessman's support of the Wall Street bailout, a national sales tax and what Santorum said are inconsistencies in his stance on abortion and gun control.

Cain "gave an interview recently saying that he's for the Second Amendment, but states should be able to pass whatever laws to control guns," Santorum said. "You can't be pro-life and then say people have a choice to do whatever they want."
