Wayward monkey back home in Texas

SAN ANTONIO, Oct. 20 (UPI) -- A monkey that escaped and evaded capture for five days in Texas was finally corralled in a chicken coop and retrieved by its owner, authorities said.

The capuchin monkey, one of five monkeys that escaped from their cages Friday at a home in Lakehill, was spotted Wednesday evening inside a neighbor's chicken coop, the San Antonio Express-News reported.

The neighbor trapped the 30-year-old monkey inside long enough for its owner to pick him up, Bandera County Chief Deputy Richard Smith said.

The other four animals had returned to their owner's home on Saturday, while the fifth, named Obie, had remained at large.

But, "he made it in," Smith said. "It's a very happy ending -- nobody came in contact with him, and he's back home safe."
