OAKLAND, Calif., Oct. 20 (UPI) -- Harold Camping, the Oakland, Calif., minister who infamously predicted a rapture would occur May 21, says he now believes the world will end this week.
"I do believe we're getting very near the very end," Camping, 90, said this month in a podcast posted on his Family Radio Web site. "Oct. 21, that's coming very shortly, that looks like it will be, at this point, it will be the final end of everything."
Camping said he was shocked his previous prediction proved incorrect and had to go over his calculations again, the San Francisco Chronicle reported Thursday.
"We've learned that there's a lot of things we didn't have quite right," he said.
The minister has not made himself available for interviews regarding his current prediction. He said in his podcast he is convinced the end is near, though doesn't think it will come with a bang.
"I really am beginning to think as I've restudied these matters that there's going to be no big display of any kind," Camping said. "The end is going to come very, very quietly."
