SAN ANTONIO, Oct. 13 (UPI) -- Husband-and-wife former contracting officials with the Army have accused investigators of illegally twisting facts against them in a corruption probe.
Velma "Bebe" Salinas-Nix and Kenneth H. Nix, both 56, filed a federal lawsuit in San Antonio Friday against the Army after they were indicted in June on charges of conspiracy and filing false tax returns, the San Antonio Express-News reported Wednesday.
The two accuse four federal agents of acting on information that was false, incorrect or outdated. The suit claims Salinas-Nix was never read her Miranda rights and was grilled for hours without being allowed to use the restroom during an October 2009 interrogation in Virginia. Meanwhile, the couple's home in Boerne, Texas was raided.
Federal agents "did not have any reasonable grounds for believing that [Salinas-Nix] was committing or had committed any offense," the lawsuit reads.
The search warrants indicated the couple were suspected of bribery but they were indicted on lesser charges.
The suit seeks $10 million in compensatory and punitive damages.
