Police: DNA links same man to five rapes

PALM BEACH, Fla., Oct. 6 (UPI) -- Palm Beach County, Fla., police used DNA evidence to link five rapes in the area to the one man, but officials say they have yet to identify him.

"We know it's the same person, but we have no way to identify him" said sheriff's office Capt. Carol Gregg. "Everyone should be alert. Not just women, but men as well."

Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said Wednesday that it is offering a $10,000 reward for information on the serial rapist, The Palm Beach (Fla.) Post reported.

The most recent rape happened the morning of Sept. 23. The 22-year-old victim was speed walking in Lake Worth. The rapist attacked the woman from behind, a witness said.

The victim fought back, biting the man's index fingers. The man then pushed his elbow and forearm into her neck, causing her to pass out, the Post reported.

When she woke up, her clothes were off and her messenger bag was gone.

The man is believed to be responsible for four other rapes -- in April, July, and August 2009 and January 2010 -- in Jupiter, Palm Springs, suburban Lake Worth and suburban West Palm Beach.

The female victims are of different nationalities and ages, ranging from their 20s to 50s. Some were left unconscious and were taken to the hospital.

The suspect is described as a Latino man or having an accent, about 25 years old, between 5-foot-2 and 5-foot-6 and having short hair or long hair kept in a ponytail.
