Bastrop wildfire 50 percent contained

AUSTIN, Texas, Oct. 6 (UPI) -- A wildfire burning in Bastrop County, Texas, is 50 percent contained and official say they hope more evacuated residents can return soon.

"They feel really good on how things went yesterday," Texas Forest Service spokesman John Nichols said Thursday.

There have been no injuries and no structural damage caused by the fire that has consumed 320 acres since Tuesday, the Austin American-Statesman reported.

Nichols said fire crews hope containment will increase through Thursday, but they don't know when the fire will be fully extinguished.

Officials will assess the area to determine if residents can return home, Nichols said.

The cause of the most recent fire is unknown. The Bastrop County Complex fire, the most destructive wildfire in Texas history, burned for most of September, killing two people and destroying more than 1,600 homes.
