Monkey dies after capture in Florida

ST. CLOUD, Fla., Sept. 30 (UPI) -- A monkey captured by animal control officers after being seen in a number of locations in St. Cloud, Fla., has died, authorities said.

After the successful capture Wednesday night the animal suddenly became lethargic Thursday morning and died, officials told WFTV, Orlando.

The 30-pound monkey fell about 60 to 100 feet after being tranquilized in a tree canopy and was captured by Osceola County Animal Control, they said.

"This is very unfortunate and sad," Animal Control Director Lee Radebaugh said. "It was our goal to trap him and have him relocated to a setting that would be both safe for him and the community."

Authorities said there were no indications of ownership and no reports had been received of a lost or stolen monkey.
