Slaying testimony 'tough' for Conn. jurors

NEW HAVEN, Conn., Sept. 21 (UPI) -- A judge cut testimony short Wednesday in the trial of a Connecticut man accused of killing a woman and her two daughters during a home invasion.

Superior Court Judge Jon. C. Blue abruptly ended audiotape testimony by defendant Joshua Komisarjevsky, because "one of the jurors is having a tough time," he said. On the tape, the man was describing having oral sex with 11-year-old Michaela Petit before eventually setting the family's Cheshire, Conn., house on fire in 2007, the Hartford (Conn.) Courant reported.

"It started out against her will …," Komisarjevsky said in the tape before it was turned off.

Earlier in the day, jurors viewed crime scene photos of the slain family, which also included mother Jennifer Hawke-Petit and 17-year-old Hayley.

Komisarjevsky could face the death penalty if convicted. His alleged partner in the crime, Steven Hayes, was sentenced to death last year.
