FRAMINGHAM, Mass., Sept. 9 (UPI) -- President Obama's uncle was released from a county jail in Massachusetts where he was being held after his arrest for alleged drunken driving, officials said.

While U.S. officials would not release any information on Onyango Obama, an unnamed official at the Plymouth County (Mass.) Department of Correction said Obama's uncle was taken to Burlington Vt., where U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has offices, The Boston Globe reported Friday.

The 67-year-old Kenyan, who has been living in the United States illegally, was ordered to leave the country in 1989. His attorney Scott Bratton has said Obama, the half-brother of the president's father, would fight deportation, the newspaper said.

The White House said the president does not expect his uncle to receive special treatment.
