WEST COLUMBIA, S.C., Aug. 26 (UPI) -- U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson, R-S.C., was hospitalized to treat a viral infection but is expected to fully recover, Eric Dell, Wilson's chief of staff, said.

Wilson, 64, was hospitalized Thursday and was undergoing treatment for a "chronic viral-type infection" at a medical center in West Columbia, S.C., Roll Call reported Friday.

"While the exact infectious agent has not yet been defined, there is no evidence of serious complication and complete recovery is expected," Dell said.

In September 2009, Wilson yelled "You lie!" as President Obama outlined his healthcare overhaul proposal in an address before a joint session of Congress. The House later approved a resolution expressing disapproval against Wilson for violating congressional rules in a way that "degraded" the joint session.

Wilson represents the 2nd Congressional District and is in his fifth term.
