NEW YORK, Aug. 26 (UPI) -- Former New York Gov. George Pataki has decided not to make a bid for the Republican presidential nomination, a source close to him told CNN.

Pataki, who had been talking about making a run at the GOP nomination for months, had been scheduled to appear this weekend in the key early voting state of Iowa.

There was speculation that the former three-term governor would announce his intention to run Saturday at a Polk County Republican fundraiser.

But Pataki, who seriously considered running, has decided instead to forgo a White House bid, the source told CNN.
