PORT HURON, Mich., Aug. 17 (UPI) -- A Michigan teenager has been found guilty of plotting and orchestrating an attack that killed her father and wounded her mother.
Tia Skinner, 18, of Yale was convicted Tuesday of first-degree murder, attempted murder and conspiracy to commit murder, the Port Huron Times Herald reported.
Skinner was downstairs in the family's home the night of Nov. 11 when two men armed with knives killed her father, Paul Skinner, and seriously injured her mother, Mara Skinner. Jurors agreed the then-17-year-old was guilty of arranging the attack.
The prosecution introduced text messages between Tia Skinner and her boyfriend, Jonathan Kurtz, about when the attack would happen.
"I snuck my fone back but only for this one message so please don't text back but do it tonite at 11," read one text Skinner sent Kurtz on Nov. 11.
Kurtz and James Preston, both 19, were found guilty in earlier separate trials of stabbing the couple.
Authorities say they believe Skinner may have plotted the attack because her parents disapproved of her relationship with Kurtz.
