AUBURN, Calif., Aug. 17 (UPI) -- The FBI said Wednesday a woman suspected of being the "Bad Hair Bandit" is in custody in California.
Cynthia Van Holland, 46, of Hayden, Idaho, and her alleged getaway driver, Christopher Alonzo, 26, also of Hayden, were arrested Monday following a bank holdup in Auburn, Calif., The Seattle Times reported.
Van Holland is suspected in as many as 20 bank robberies or attempted holdups in Washington, Oregon, Montana and California since December. The holdup artist got her moniker because she wore wigs that were not well-coiffed.
Van Holland and Alonzo got away from the Auburn's Bank of the West with some cash but authorities tracked them down about 12 miles away through their vehicle license plate number, which had been observed by a witness, KOIN-TV, Portland, Ore., reported,
A dozen "Bad Hair Bandit" holdups were pulled off in the Puget Sound area and the robber would typically pass a note to the teller stating she was armed and demanding money, KOMO-TV, Seattle, said.
While the "Bad Hair Bandit" is allegedly off the streets, authorities have yet to apprehend the "Mr. Magoo Bandit," who has successfully robbed at least five San Diego banks since November. His most recent holdup was Wednesday.
The "Mr. Magoo Bandit" -- named for a myopic cartoon character -- is described as a bald white man with glasses. He's estimated to be 35-40 years old, 5-foot-10 to 5-foot-11, and 185-200 pounds.
