Pit bull kills pregnant Calif. woman

PACIFICA, Calif., Aug. 15 (UPI) -- The husband of a pregnant California woman fatally mauled by the family's pet pit bull says he doesn't blame the dog, which was shot and killed by police.

"They are the most loving animals I have ever had in my life. Whatever happened right now was not the breed's fault," Greg Napora of Pacifica said.

Napora found his wife dead when he returned home from his construction job, the Bay Area News Group reported Monday.

"It was just a freak accident," he said.

Police say they shot and killed the dog when it approached emergency medical personnel called to the scene.

The family said Darla Napora loved her dogs -- 2-year-old male Gunner, killed by police, and a 6-year-old female pit bull, Tazi -- and was an avid supporter of Bay Area Doglovers Responsible About Pit Bulls, or Bad Rap, which works to change attitudes toward the often-controversial breed.
