Missing man found in manhole

LEAGUE CITY, Texas, July 25 (UPI) -- A Texas man was found at the bottom of a 30-foot-deep manhole Monday afternoon where he had been trapped since the weekend, officials say.

Kevin Gonterman, 25, of League City was pulled out of the manhole by rescuers Monday afternoon, the Houston Chronicle reported. The hole, labeled "sewage," was located in a wooded area, about 150 yards from a road.

Gonterman was conscious and talking lucidly while volunteers with Texas Equusearch brought him out of the hole. He also had been bitten by snakes.

"I don't think that he would probably have made it through the rest of the day," Equusearch's Frank Black said.

Gonterman was last seen about 6:30 p.m. Saturday in the area he was found.

League City police Sgt. John Jordan said Gonterman's girlfriend reported him missing Sunday.

Jordan could not say how the man ended up in the hole, or how long he had been down there for.

"That's all questions we're going to ask when he gets out of there," Jordan said
