First Lady makes another magazine cover

WASHINGTON, July 22 (UPI) -- Better Homes and Garden, which usually shows domestic interiors and gardens on its cover, has U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama fronting the August issue.

Obama is the first celebrity to appear on the magazine's cover since the actor Cliff Robertson was featured in an article titled "He Cooks" in 1963, The Washington Post reported. She is also the first president's wife ever.

The cover shows a smiling Obama in a blue and white dress and yellow cardigan seated at a picnic table with a headline reading "Fresh and Healthy Michelle Obama Ideas and Inspiration to Help America's Families Eat Right."

In the past three years, Obama has become used to being on magazine covers, appearing in Ladies Home Journal, People, Vogue, Ebony and, in May, Amtrak's Arrive, among others.

While conservatives may ridicule Obama's initiative on combating childhood obesity with exercise and healthy food, polls show she is more popular than her husband. Gayle Butler, editor in chief of Better Homes and Gardens, said she was a natural fit for the magazine.

"Last year, research with our readers showed this really high priority moms have when it comes to healthy eating," she said.
