Wildfires battled in Utah, California

SALT LAKE CITY, July 20 (UPI) -- Fire crews were busy battling three wildfires in northern Utah, but no injuries were reported and no evacuations announced, authorities said.

The largest of the blazes has burned 1,050 acres of grass and brush just south of the Utah County town of Elberta, 30 miles southwest of Provo, Bureau of Land Management spokeswoman Erin Darboven said.

The lightning-sparked fire was 20 percent contained Wednesday morning, the Salt Lake Tribune reported.

About 60 firefighters, supported by water- and fire retardant-bearing aircraft, were battling the fire.

Two other fires, each burning about 100 acres, had other fire crews busy near the Utah-Nevada state line northeast of Wendover and about 125 miles southwest of Salt Lake City, authorities said.

Meanwhile, two wildfires were reported in the high desert of Southern California.

The largest was reported near Reeves Dry Lake in the Apple Valley area, county fire dispatchers said, and had burned 25 acres.

A smaller fire was reported near Lucerne Valley and the southern boundary of the San Bernardino National Forest.
