LEAGUE CITY, Texas, July 20 (UPI) -- League City, Texas, police say they are searching for a man wanted for a hit-and-run, resulting in the death of pedestrian.
Alejandro Garcia, 19, has been charged with failure to stop and provide aid after he hit Maurice Jones, 34, with his car two years ago, causing Jones' death, the Houston Chronicle reported Wednesday. Garcia's bond has been set at $50,000.
The night Jones was killed, he was walking home from McDonalds, where he worked, on a road without a sidewalk. Garcia allegedly swerved across the street, hit Jones, and stopped about 40 yards later, the police said.
Garcia left a note, which originally led police to believe it had been a woman driver between the ages of 20 and 40; however, experts say it is impossible to conclude gender from handwriting.
The 20-word note reportedly contained an apology, which Jones' mother, Roberta Jones, said made her son's death even harder to bear.
Police have not released the contents of the note or the evidence they used to finger Garcia, saying they will use it when they eventually question him.
