GALVESTON, Texas, July 20 (UPI) -- A man intoxicated on bath salts attacked a baby in a shopping cart in a Texas Walmart, police say.
Austin Jones, 20, of Pasadena, Texas, was held on $13,000 bond on a felony charge of bodily injury to a child and misdemeanors of resisting arrest and assault by contact, Galveston police told The (Galveston) Daily News.
Detective Michelle Sollenberger said Jones approached the woman, who he did not know, as she entered the store with her 11-month-old child Monday afternoon.
"As he approached, he was yelling and screaming at them about the baby," Sollenberger said. "He grabbed the bed of her shopping cart the child was sitting in and started pulling and shaking the shopping cart. The mother … kept it from completely flipping over on the child. The little girl had red marks on her legs from the shaking."
Retired policeman John Bertolino, who works for the department as a civilian, called dispatchers on his radio, Sollenberger said. Jones resisted arrest in the parking lot and was then shocked with a Taser, she said.
Police said Jones admitted taking bath salts, which can make users violent.
He was treated and released at a hospital Monday night and taken to the Galveston County Jail.
