Woman with toddler robs Florida bank

PASCO, Fla., July 19 (UPI) -- Police in Florida say a woman robbed a bank with a 3-year-old toddler in tow then dropped him off at day care before she was stopped and arrested.

Police said Cherilyn Jannette Lopez, 24, got out of a silver minivan Monday afternoon, leaving the engine running and a 3-year-old boy in a car seat as she entered the Regions Bank in Pasco.

But the child squeezed himself out of the seat and walked to the bank's entrance where he was spotted by a manager, who told Lopez, the St. Petersburg Times reported.

Lopez retrieved the boy, walked back in with him at her side, and then handed a note to a teller demanding money, police said.

Lopez left with an undisclosed amount of cash then dropped the child off at a nearby day care and drove away, presumably to buy drugs, deputies said.

She was soon pulled over in the Chrysler minivan described by witnesses as the getaway car.

Pasco Sheriff Chris Nocco said Lopez, addicted to prescription pain pills, confessed to robbing the bank.

He would not disclose Lopez's relationship to the child, who was in protective custody.

"That woman was not only a danger to the child that she put at risk but also to our citizens," he said.
