Teen charged with deadly firebombing

OKLAHOMA CITY, July 14 (UPI) -- An Oklahoma City teenager has been charged with firebombing the house of two elderly neighbors, starting a fire that killed the couple.

Firefighters found the bodies of Boyd Haynes, 87, and his wife, Doris, 86, in the ruins of their home early Wednesday, The Oklahoman reported. Tristan Ryan Owen, 15, was arrested later in the day.

A spokeswoman for the medical examiner said Thursday the cause of death was determined to be smoke inhalation.

Keven Davis, who also lives in the neighborhood, told the newspaper he saw someone walking away from the Haynes' house just before the fire began around 4 a.m. He tried to get to the house but was driven back by smoke and flames.

Neighbors said Boyd and Doris Haynes lived in the area for decades and had been married for more than 60 years.

Thad Yount, 80, said Doris Haynes was known for her chocolate chip cookies. He said she sent cookies to neighborhood association meetings even when she could not go herself.

Owen was being held without bail. On his MySpace page, he discusses smoking marijuana and getting into fights, The Oklahoman said.
