LOS ANGELES, July 8 (UPI) -- Prince William and his wife of two months, Catherine, arrived in Los Angeles late Friday afternoon for a three-day stay in Southern California.

The couple, formally known as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, headed to the Beverly Hilton from the airport for a technology conference, CNN reported. They were at the meeting of venture capitalists and entrepreneurs to support British business.

California Gov. Jerry Brown, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and Sir Nigel Sheinwald, the British ambassador to the United States, met the couple when their Royal Canadian Air Force jet touched down, the Los Angeles Times reported. Los Angeles is their final stop on a North American tour.

William competes in the "Foundation Polo Challenge" at the Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club in Carpinteria Saturday. Later in the day, the couple will attend a party for the British Academy of Film and Television Arts in Los Angeles, CNN said.

The couple had a sizable security escort from the Los Angeles Police Department and California Highway Patrol. One CHP car had a British flag flying from its radio antenna.
