NEW YORK, June 29 (UPI) -- A New York man accused of running an illegal gambling den has asked a judge to allow him to play in legal poker tournaments while he is out on bail.
Anthony (Tiger) Arcuri was arrested in January as part of a takedown of 100 alleged mobsters in the New York City area involved with illegal gambling. Arcuri, 42, is charged with supervising illegal card games at a mob-controlled club in Long Island and, although free on $100,000 bail, he can't leave New York, the New York Daily News reported Wednesday.
One of his bail conditions is that Arcuri refrain from gambling, but his attorney, Glenn Obedin has asked Federal Judge Leonard Wexler to allow Arcuri to travel to Connecticut and New Jersey "to participate in legally sanctioned poker tournaments."
"Mr. Arcuri derives the majority of his earnings from such tournaments," Obedin said.
Poker site Cardplayer.com listed Arcuri's career winnings at $5,437 based on participation in three tournaments from 2006 to 2010.
Neither Obedin nor Arcuri could be reached for comment, the Daily News said.
