Casey Anthony trial hears about finding remains

ORLANDO, Fla., June 28 (UPI) -- George Anthony, testifying in the Florida trial of his daughter Casey, denied saying the death of Casey's daughter Caylee was an accident.

Casey Anthony, 25, is accused of killing her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee Marie, in the summer of 2008.

Defense lawyer Jose Baez called George Anthony to the stand but did not question him about accusations made in the defense's opening statement that he helped dispose of Caylee's body after she drowned in the family pool and that he had sexually abused Casey when she was a little girl, ABC news reported Tuesday.

Instead, Baez questioned him about his relationship with Krystal Holloway, one of the volunteers helping in the search for his granddaughter.

The defense claims the two had an affair.

The defense alleges Anthony told Holloway Caylee's disappearance was an "accident that snowballed out of control," something denied by Anthony.

Earlier testimony centered on the discovery of remains later identified as Anthony's daughter Caylee.

Roy Kronk, who discovered the remains while working as an Orange County meter reader, testified how he tried to alert authorities about his discovery in some woods near the Anthony home in August, the Orlando Sentinel reported.

Kronk described returning to the vacant lot in December after deputies called to the scene in August failed to find anything.

He said he again found what he thought might be a skull.

Not being sure what it was, Kronk testified, he placed his meter-reader stick in the skull's right eye socket to move it slightly.

"I apologize for doing so, I did not know what it was. I gently pivoted it up. I never lifted it off the ground," Kronk testified. "That was a very horrific thing for me to find, obviously."

He immediately called a supervisor, he said

"I said I needed him there immediately. I had found a human skull," Kronk said.

Defense attorney Baez had made strong insinuations in his opening statements about Kronk's alleged involvement in the disposal of Caylee's body.
