Officials said the plane crashed nose-first into a garage north of the airport in Charlevoix, Mich. The plane was headed to Boyne Falls but Hatch changed airports for an unknown reason, officials said, flying to Charlevoix instead.

Austin Hatch survived the 2003 crash that killed his mother, Julie, and two siblings, Lindsay, 11 and Ian, 5.

Stephen Hatch was a physician specializing in pain management. He was the owner of Smith Field Air Services, The Journal Gazette said.

The cause of the Michigan crash was unknown, investigators said.
