Man charged in deaths of two U.S. airmen

NEW YORK, June 22 (UPI) -- The man accused of killing two U.S. Air Force servicemen in Germany in March was charged with first-degree murder in a federal court in New York.

The complaint filed Tuesday indicated Arid Uka, 21, shot and killed two servicemen, and injured two more during the shooting rampage on an Air Force bus outside Frankfurt International Airport while shouting "God is great," CNN reported Wednesday.

German authorities said Uka, a Muslim from Kosovo, confessed he was motivated by revenge against the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan after visiting radical Islamist Web sites, The New York Times quoted German authorities as saying.

Senior Airman Nicholas Alden and Airman 1st Class Zachary Cuddeback died after being shot at close range March 2. When his gun jammed, Uka fled and was arrested by German police later that day.

Uka is in German custody and will be brought to New York for trial, U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara said. Uka is being held on five counts, including two counts of premeditated murder of an officer of the United States and one count of attempted murder of officers.
