CHICAGO, June 18 (UPI) -- An off-duty Chicago police officer dressed as a clown shot and killed a suspect that tried to rob him at gunpoint, police officials said.
Officials didn't name the officer of the dead man, but said the incident happened about 10 p.m. Thursday when the off-duty officer, dressed as a clown to raise money for a day-care business, was approached by a teen asking for money, the Chicago Tribune reported.
When the officer told the teen he didn't have any money, the teen allegedly pulled a weapon. During a struggle, the officer opened fire, killing the youth.
Officials said the officer had minor injuries. A weapon was recovered from the scene and one person was taken into custody.
The Independent Police Review Authority is investigating the shooting.
