KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, Fla., June 10 (UPI) -- Visitors to a Star Trek exhibit at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida have a chance to explore the final frontier in a suborbital spacecraft, the center said.

Visitors to "Star Trek: The Exhibition" attraction can enter a contest to win a very brief space trip as soon as next year aboard the two-seat XCOR Aerospace Lynx aircraft, Florida Today reported Friday. Two grand prizes will be awarded.

The Lynx will be piloted by retired astronaut Richard Searfoss, who participated in three space shuttle missions in the 1990s, center officials said. Total flight time aboard the Lynx vehicle -- which takes off and lands on a runway -- is about 45 minutes, including about 2 minutes in space.

The prize, valued at more than $100,000, includes a six-day, five-night hotel stay for two while the winner trains for the flight, Florida Today said.

"Star Trek: The Exhibition" will open its four-month run at the center's visitor's complex Saturday.
