Police: Student may be crime victim

BLOOMINGTON, Ind., June 7 (UPI) -- A missing Indiana University student may have been the victim of foul play, a police investigator said Tuesday.

Lt. Bill Parker told the news media police in Bloomington, Ind., have no leads on what happened to Lauren Spierer, WISH-TV reported. The 20-year-old co-ed from Westchester County,. N.Y., was last seen early Friday when she left a friend's apartment.

"When somebody at 4:30 in the morning, no shoes and has earlier been drinking, goes out and just disappears off a street corner -- we feel like it certainly could be foul play involved," Parker said. "At this point we don't have a revelation, we don't have breaking news, so we're still inviting tips, and we're inviting information."

Investigators have been able to track Spierer's movements through Thursday evening and into Friday morning, Parker said. She left her shoes and cellphone at a bar and apparently lost her keys and a purse in between her apartment and an apartment complex where her friends lived, The Times-Herald of Bloomington reported.

Parker urged the hundreds of volunteers who have been looking for Spierer to continue. He said a police sergeant has been assigned to coordinate the search parties.
