Suspect named in Denver kidnapping

DENVER, June 5 (UPI) -- Denver police identified a 27-year-old suspect in the alleged kidnapping of a young girl.

Bret Lee Luckett Thompson, who also goes by the name Wyatt Thompson, was believed to still be in the Denver area, although there was also a chance he had fled the state, officials said.

"We just don't know where he is," David Fisher, head of investigations for the DPD, told the Denver Post.

It was not clear what led police to conclude Thompson had something to do with the alleged abduction and sexual assault on the child. The 8-year-old girl, who was grabbed off the street Thursday, was released later in the day.

Thompson, who has no previous record for sex offenses, generally lives as a transient and was seen at a homeless shelter a few hours after the alleged kidnapping.

The Denver Post said more than 100 police officers and 50 FBI agents were involved in the search for the suspect.
