New York cop suspended over sexting

NEW YORK, June 3 (UPI) -- A New York City police officer faces sex abuse, harassment and child endangerment charges for allegedly sending racy texts to a teenage girl.

Police officer Kevin Louther was released on $750 bail and suspended without pay from his job as a youth officer in the city's Brooklyn borough, the New York Daily News reported Friday. He is due back in court next week.

Investigators said the texts were allegedly sent to a 15-year-old girl Louther met in the 70th Precinct station house, where she took part in the police department's Explorers program.

The two began a relationship that allegedly involved erotic texts and e-mails. When the girl's mother found out about the relationship, she told another officer, who reported it to officials.

Louther, who has been with the NYPD for nearly six years, declined comment.
