WASHINGTON, June 1 (UPI) -- U.S. President Barack Obama will visit a Chrysler plant in Toledo, Ohio, Friday and tout the success of the auto bailouts, the White House said Wednesday.

The announcement stated Obama "will hear firsthand from local business owners and residents about the importance of the auto industry resurgence to the community as a whole and the economic devastation it would have faced had Chrysler been allowed to fail."

The White House asserted the rescues of General Motors and Chrysler saved 1 million jobs and noted that Chrysler repaid the government more than six years ahead of schedule last week.

Chrysler's Toledo operations employ more than 1,700 workers making the Jeep Wrangler, Jeep Liberty and Dodge Nitro.
