Houston officer killed when struck by car

HOUSTON, May 29 (UPI) -- Houston police said a patrol officer was hit by a car and killed Sunday while investigating a traffic accident.

Officer Kevin Will, 38, was interviewing a witness on the city's northwest side around 3:15 a.m. CDT when he was struck by a Volkswagen that allegedly drove around a barricade.

Police told the Houston Chronicle the witness heard Will shout "Look out" an instant before he was struck. The witness managed to jump out of the way.

The driver of the VW was detained and was suspected of driving under the influence, the newspaper said.
